I am pleased announce that my book chapter on teams applying awareness practices is published. It is an honour to be part of the global efforts to bring collective awareness practices into organizations, in order to help them innovate and evolve better. These practices, known by many as presencing practices, enable teams to tap into another source of knowledge which goes beyond intellectual dialogue and data analysis. In social presencing, the practices get us out of our heads, out of our tech, and back into our individual and collective bodies.
I wrote this chapter back in 2018 to document these new practices applied in organizations during the year 2017.
The following organization case studies are documented in this chapter, in order of their appearance:
Chapter 13, Social Presencing Theater (SPT): Practical Application in Organizations, by Michelle N. Moore, provides an overview of embodied awareness practices and examples of its practical application in organizations.
The chapter appears in the book, Advances in Presencing, Volume III: Collective Approaches in Theory U, published in 2021, edited by O. Gunnlaugson and W. Brendel. See pages 351 – 393 for the full chapter.
The first half of the chapter provides a definition of SPT, examples of why organizations might apply SPT, and describes the core principles which are the foundation for SPT.
This is followed by descriptions of SPT exercises. The first four SPT exercises are primarily preparatory, and generally practiced without specific organizational input. These include 20 Minute Dance, Duet, Village and Field Dance.
The last four SPT exercises are applied. They are framed within the individual or organizational context and can be used to guide decisions and actions. Applied exercises include Stuck, 4D Mapping, Case Clinic and Seed Dance.
The second half of the chapter describes actual cases of SPT applied in ten organizations in several countries along with a conclusion on the evolution of SPT.
